Fabric Shrinkage % Calculator

Evaluate dimensional stability across length (warp/wales) and width (weft/courses) after laundering.

Length / Wales Measurement

Width / Courses Measurement

Standard Testing Formula

Shrinkage % = ((Original Dimension - Washed Dimension) / Original Dimension) × 100

A positive result denotes contraction (shrinkage), whereas a negative percentage indicates fabric elongation or growth.

Industry Standard Tolerance Guidelines

  • Single Jersey: ±5% to ±7% acceptable commercial tolerance.
  • 100% Cotton Wovens: ±2% to ±3% acceptable tolerance.
  • Synthetic Knits: ±2% to ±4% dimensional tolerance.
Laboratory Standard Notice: Fabric specifications such as GSM, width, composition and performance may vary depending on yarn, construction, finishing process, manufacturer and end use. Values shown are general industry reference information and should not be treated as a supplier specification.
