G

GSM

Grams per Square Meter (g/m²); the international standard metric measurement for fabric areal weight.

GSM measures the weight of one square meter of fabric in grams. It establishes a standardized comparison metric regardless of fabric width. Standard textile testing involves cutting a circular specimen (usually 100 cm² with a circular GSM cutter) and weighing it on a precision electronic balance.
Industrial Application: A lightweight summer t-shirt typically utilizes 140-160 GSM single jersey, whereas heavy French Terry hoodies use 320-400 GSM.
Related Fabrics: Single Jersey Interlock
Standard Terminology Notice: Fabric specifications such as GSM, width, composition and performance may vary depending on yarn, construction, finishing process, manufacturer and end use. Values shown are general industry reference information and should not be treated as a supplier specification.
